Topsoil Guides

Everything you need for your topsoil project — from calculating how much you need to applying it correctly for lawns, beds, and raised gardens.

ðŸŒą New lawn
Use 4–6 inches of topsoil over existing soil. Rake smooth, seed, and water. One yard of topsoil covers about 81 sq ft at 4 inches deep.
ðŸŠī Raised beds
Fill raised beds with 8–12 inches. Mix topsoil with compost (60/40) for best results. A 4×8 ft bed at 12" needs about 1.2 cubic yards.
💰 Cost range
Bulk topsoil: $15–$50 per cubic yard. Screened topsoil: $25–$50/yard. Delivery adds $40–$75. Bagged topsoil at big-box stores: $5–$8 per 40 lb bag.
